A generic name formerly applied to some species of plants now referred to <em>Hibiscus</em>, including <em>A. moschatus</em> or <em>H. Abelmoschus</em>, the abelmosk or muskmallow of India and Egypt, producing the muskseed used in perfumes, and <em>A.</em> or <em>H. esculentus</em>, the okra.
